Joint actions for prevention and reduction of the consequences
of disasters in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovish
On June 29 and 30, 2021 in the conference hall of Hotel Sirus, Strumica, a two-day Round Table was held to discuss the mitigation of the effects of climate change in North Macedonia and Bulgaria, within the project "Joint activitions to prevent and reduce the consequences of disasters in the municipalities of Sandanski and Radovis, co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg-IPA Program for cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia 2014-2020, CCI No2014TC16I5CB006.
The event was attended by representatives, experts from the local authorities of the cross-border region of the two countries Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, representatives of non-governmental organizations working in the field of environmental protection, representatives of the education sector and others.
At the Round Table, experiences and practices for mitigation of the consequences of climate change in the cross-border region in the Republic of North Macedonia and Republic of Bulgaria were shared, as well as experts presented the methodology for development of municipal local action plans for climate change in the Republic of North Macedonia, the local strategy for climate change in the municipality of Radovis, as well as digitalization and use of ICT in the fight against climate change for early flood and fire warning.
In addition to the discussion and exchange of good practices, experience and knowledge for implementation of various measures to reduce the effects of climate change in the communities of the common cross-border region, in the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, an on-site visit was organized. of the project for regulation of the riverbed of the river Sushica in o. Radovish, where the participants got acquainted with the course and implementation of the project, were introduced to the different phases of construction, the main challenges and the impact on the environment.
The main goal of the project is to implement measures to adapt to climate change related to reducing the risk of flooding in the municipalities of Sandanski (Republic of Bulgaria) and Radovish (Republic of North Macedonia).
